What R users struggle with
Guten Tag! đź‘‹
Many greetings from Munich, Germany. In my last mail, I announced that I'm working on a workshop to bring more technical content into the R community.
And wow. Many of you had thoughts on that.
Turns out, I hit a nerve when I said that there are too few resources on bringing R into production. But not in a bad way. Your responses were more like “Yes, exactly! This is what I've been looking for.”
So I'm glad that I wasn't imagining things. And I'm also glad that there's an interest in this community to close many of these technical gaps.
Not surprisingly, most responses were about two things:
How to work (more efficiently) with databases and cloud storage.
How to use functional and functional object oriented programming to write more robust R code.
And this doesn't surprise me because both things are real struggles that you hit immediately when working in a business setting. Also, the fact that there's a high demand for such a fundamental building block only underlines my initial assessment: R users are often left alone to figure out how to operate their favorite language in business settings.
So this only strengthens my resolve to teach an online workshop on some of these more technical topics. Details to follow. In the meantime, you can check out my newest YT video on how to connect your favorite data science language to databases, cloud storage or APIs:
Best,
Albert
